BAM FI/BMWK Twitter Chat Garners 1.6 Million Impressions

(Landover Hills, MD) Black and Missing Foundation, Inc. (BAM FI) and BlackandMarriedWithKids.com (BMWK) announced today that its first hour-long Twitter chat to bring awareness to missing persons of color proved to be an enormous success with more than 700 tweets and 1.6 million impressions reaching an audience of more than 213,000 followers. Tweeters included soul artists Kindred the Family Soul and two-time Grammy award winning hip hop-group Arrested Development.

“We are very happy that we were able to successfully leverage the power of social media to increase the profile of missing persons of color,” said Lamar Tyler, co-founder of Black and Married with Kids. “This social media distribution network will help unite families in communities who previously wouldn’t have gotten this amount of attention. If we can unite one family or keep one person from going missing, we’ve done our job.”

The partnership between both organizations has created a social media distribution network for missing persons via Twitter, Facebook and popular Blogs similar to the offline Amber Alert system. Individuals who would like to be added to the distribution network should send an email to BAMFI.org.

“We must utilize every possible platform to bring awareness to the thousands of missing persons of color in our community,” said Derrica Wilson, president and CEO of Black and Missing Foundation, Inc. “Yesterday’s online conversation is an indication that the minority community is engaged and will to do all that is necessary to eradicate the disparity in coverage of missing persons of color.”
