Black and Missing Foundation Commemorates 12th Anniversary with a Day of Service; Distributing Food and Household Essentials to 200 District of Columbia Residents to Fill the Gap During COVID-19

(Landover Hills, MD) – In commemoration of its 12th anniversary, the Black and Missing Foundation (BAMFI) will host a “Day of Service” on Sunday, May 24, to provide 200 families in the District of Columbia with much needed food and household supplies to assist with the COVID-19 relief efforts.

“We are all in this together,” says Co-Founder Natalie Wilson. “It’s important that we lend a helping hand to those in our communities who are most vulnerable.”

What started on May 24, 2008, as a passion project between two sisters-in-law to bring attention to the growing number of missing persons of color, has evolved into one of the nation’s top non-profit organization, reuniting families and providing much needed closure for others. Since its inception, BAMFI has supported, opened doors and not restricted access to help for thousands of families searching for their missing loved ones.

With 240,000 persons of color reported missing every year, the founders realize they still have a vital role to play because these individuals rarely garner the level of attention and exposure needed to be located.

“One post, one tweet, one share, could help us find and bring home a missing loved one or provide much needed answers for their families,” says Co-Founder Derrica Wilson.

BAMFI is challenging the public to also support their anniversary efforts, which include:

  • The $12 for $12,000 Fundraiser: Give a tax-deductible donation during the campaign, through Sunday, May 24, to help BAMFI reach its $12,000 anniversary goal. Proceeds to benefit the families who turn to BAMFI in their time of need. Click here to donate.
  • Lives Worth Sharing Campaign: Share the profile of a missing person from the “Lives Worth Sharing” campaign on BAMFI’s social media platforms. One share may be all it takes to find the missing link or information that could help reunite a family or provide closure.
  • Reminder: The May 24 deadline is quickly approaching for the BAMFI Corporal Phyllis Y. Henderson Memorial Scholarship. $5,000 will be awarded to several college-bound high-school seniors majoring in Criminal Justice.
