Black and Missing Foundation Founders Derrica Wilson and Natalie Wilson Honored to be Named Black Girls Rock! 2017 Community Change Agents

We are honored to be named the BlackGirlsRock! 2017 “Community Change Agents.” Thank you Beverly Bond, Debra Lee and BET for this amazing opportunity to raise awareness of our missing. At the Black and Missing Foundation, we believe that every missing person, regardless of age, race, mental ability, or circumstance, deserve awareness.

For close to 10 years we have been sounding the alarm about missing brown and black women, men, and children who do not receive the coverage, attention and law enforcement resources as their white counterparts.

First Lady Michelle Obama said it so well, “As women, we must stand up for ourselves. As women, we must stand up for each other. As women, we must stand up for justice for all.”And so we all must stand up for Athena Curry of Atlanta, Arianna Fitts of San Francisco, Phoenix Coldon of St Louis, Stevie Bates of New York and the countless others who remain missing.

Missing persons isn’t a black issue or a white issue, it is an American issue. We must continue these conversations to help us find us around the dinner table, on social media and in the streets because together, we can bring our missing home.

We couldn’t do what we do without the love and support of our husbands and families, team, and supporters. Congratulations to honorees “Insecure” creator, actress, writer and producer Issa Rae (Star Power Award), actress and activist Yara Shahidi (Young Gifted and Black Award), GRAMMY Award-winning songstress Roberta Flack (Living Legend Award), Wall Street powerhouse and pioneer Suzanne Shank (Shot Caller Award).
