Black and Missing Foundation Launches Production Company BAMFI Enterprises on National Missing Person’s Day

(Hyattsville, MD, Feb. 3, 2023) – Today, National Missing Person’s Day, the Black and Missing Foundation (BAMFI), whose investigative work by BAMFI Founders Natalie Wilson and Derrica Wilson was chronicled in the award-winning HBO docuseries Black and Missing, launches a multi-faceted production company, BAMFI Enterprises (BAMFI ENT), to create content and provide technical consultation for television, film and digital/streaming media with a focus on missing persons of color as well as real-life challenges affecting BIPOC communities. BAMFI is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring awareness to missing persons of color, provide vital resources and tools to missing person’s families and friends and to educate the minority community on personal safety.

“In building the Black and Missing Foundation, we learned early on that awareness, exposure of an issue is key to ignite change and a call to action,” said BAMFI Enterprises Founders Natalie Wilson and Derrica Wilson. “To accomplish that, we must create and take ownership of platforms that allow the voiceless, the marginalized in our communities to be heard. Adding the production company, which leads with hope, empowerment, and inspiration, will allow us to create and help shape the narratives that are deeply rooted and affect our communities.”

BAMFI has several projects already in the works. The founders serve as technical consultants on the upcoming Lifetime movie Black Girl Missing, starring Garcelle Beauvais, as well as the companion piece to the movie, Beyond the Headlines: Black Girl Missing, which follows true stories of the foundation’s work.

BAMFI ENT will also launch an all-new podcast, Untold Stories, featuring eight different missing persons cases, with original reporting from BAMFI’s founders and narration by Joy Sutton, talk show host and former TV journalist. Launching in May, commemorating the foundation’s 15th year of service, each episode of the podcast will focus one person’s disappearance, as told by family, friends, media and investigators.

The production company comes on the heels of the critically acclaimed, award-winning HBO docuseries Black and Missing, created by journalist/author/activist Soledad O’Brien and multiple Emmy winner Geeta Gandbhir. The four-part docuseries focused on the Wilsons’s work and their dedication in searching for missing people of color when the media and police fall short.

Derrica Wilson

Derrica Wilson is the co-founder and CEO of the Black and Missing Foundation, Inc (BAMFI). She is an award-winning social justice activist and advocate who brings more than two decades of expertise in law enforcement, compliance, investigations, policy implementation and public safety, including serving as the first black female officer with the City of Falls Church Police Department.

Derrica’s work has been documented in HBO’s award-winning documentary, Black & Missing. Furthermore, she is the proud author of the children’s book ‘Finding Sierra’ which sheds much-needed light on the dangers youth face daily.

Derrica, a certified human trafficking investigator is a graduate from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy.
