Black and Missing Foundation to Host Its 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 3, to Bring Awareness to Missing Persons of Color
(Landover Hills, MD) – The Black and Missing Foundation (BAMFI) will hold its 5th annual “Hope Without Boundaries” 5K run/walk on Saturday, June 3,at the National Harbor in Ft. Washington, Maryland.
The 5K run/walk is being held to bring awareness to the hundreds of thousands of persons of color who are missing across the nation. The event EMPOWERS our communities to take action to help find them or provide much needed answers or closure for their families.
“The number of persons of color missing here in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area and around the country is alarming,” said BAMFI Founders Natalie Wilson and Derrica Wilson. “We are holding this inspiring, family-friendly 5K to bring more attention to the countless number of missing children, parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and friends who might otherwise be overlooked.”
Persons of color represent close to 40 percent of all those missing in the United States. As a result of BAMFI’s efforts, more than 200 people have been located since its inception in 2008.
This year, BAMFI will present its first “Hope” awards to individuals for their work in law enforcement, media, and the community who have supported the mission of the organization and raised awareness for missing persons of color. The awardees are Diane Groomes, former DC Assistant Chief of Police, Jeff Mays, NewsOne contributor and Micheline Bowman, community pillar.
Special Guests: Lending support to the event are Monique Samuels of the “Real Housewives of Potomac”, Genise Shelton of “Married to Medicine” and Tamara G of “The Michael Baisden Show.”
The event is a fundraiser; monies raised will support families of the missing with distribution, victim recovery, and burial service assistance.
